Non-contact bore inspection for gun barrels

Purpose & use cases

The FOGALE's BARYS System is designed to provide accurate, repeatable, non-contact inspection of gun barrels from 4.6mm to 155mm calibers, focusing on the following objectives:

  • Detect wear, pitting, and erosion that may compromise barrel safety
  • Measure inner diameter evolution and plating integrity (e.g. chrome layer damage)
  • Enable predictive maintenance and lifetime tracking of barrel condition
  • Support documentation and traceability required by defense standards

Architecture & key components

Capacitive Barrel Sensor Head

  • Self-centering probe with non-contact sensors
  • Operates inside the barrel without contact or surface damage
  • Micron-level resolution for internal diameter, surface profile, and pits
  • Embedded camera (from 100mm) for high resolution visual inspection

 

Positioning Rod 

  • Modular extension shafts to reach full barrel length (7 meters and more)
  • Adaptable to multiple calibers and barrel geometries
  • Indexed for longitudinal correlation of measurements 
  • On-site alignment/centering tools

 

Acquisition Unit & Software Interface

  • Converts capacitive signal into precise dimension (diameter) information
