Level and Cryogenic Mass Measurement

Accurate, drift-free and embeddable solutions for liquified gas and cryogenic liquid monitoring

The challenge

  • Cryogenic liquids such as liquid hydrogen (LH₂), helium (LHe) or nitrogen must be monitored under extreme conditions: very low temperatures (down to –253 °C), high pressure, and vibration
  • Measurement systems must deliver continuous, high-resolution data in mobile, embedded, or industrial tanks, without drift or recalibration
  • Installation constraints often require compact and removable sensors, adapted to OEM tanks and pressurized vessels
  • Many applications also demand fail-safe level detection (e.g. at 90% capacity) for safety compliance
  • Systems must comply with ATEX or other regulatory standards when integrated in hydrogen or volatile gas environments

Our technical response

FOGALE Sensors offers a proprietary capacitive measurement technology designed specifically for demanding cryogenic applications:

  • Immersible probes placed inside perforated tubes in direct contact with the cryogenic liquid
  • High resolution over the entire active range (±0.5% full-scale error or better), stable over time and temperature
  • Immune to mechanical vibration, centering shifts, and thermal drift
  • No signal leakage from cable or electronics — only the sensing zone is active
  • Probes can be easily removed and reinstalled for maintenance without draining the tank
  • Optional 90% level detection module as a redundant safety probe
  • Electronics available in miniature, embedded or rack-mounted formats, including ATEX-compatible housings

Proven applications

  • Monitor cryogenic fluid levels and mass in real time, even under harsh environmental conditions
  • Integrate sensors into small or complex tanks with high mechanical or design constraints
  • Avoid costly recalibration or drift issues with ultra-stable capacitive sensing
  • Improve system maintainability and safety with removable sensor architecture and high-level detection
  • Comply with hydrogen safety regulations thanks to ATEX-compatible options
  • Adopt a sensor platform already validated by major OEMs in automotive, energy, and aerospace
